The Coates Frey Tanimoto & Gibson ( “C&F”) ‘Ohana is truly all about “family helping families” . We are a hardworking local Family Law firm concerns about our 808 island state and all of its people. NOTHING moved us more than the plight of our island folks whose lives have been literally “turned upside down” by the recent floods. Rather than simply “wish the affected folks well”, we decided to spring into action. FAMILY HELPING FAMILIES . Spearheaded & coordinated by attorney Noah Gibson (a 3rd generation Hawaii lawyer), KOKUA FOR KAUA’I was born, and will soon be in full swing. NOAH and the C&F ‘Ohana have arranged with “choke” island companies & businesses to help us get much needed donations to Kaua’i, such as Hawaiian Airlines. HSBA is helping us coordinate the Hawaii State Bar and its thousands of lawyers to help get the word out and the donations in . Check out this informative flyer here, and do as the C&F ‘Ohana is doing. DONATE WHAT YOU CAN. DROP-OFF DONATIONS at the supportive & extremely generous law firms listed on the flyer, as well at the HSBA Main Office. BE A FAMILY HELPING FAMILIES…KOKUA FOR KAUA’I and MAHALO for your generosity & support of this very important drive!!!
Firm Founder Brad Coates continued his run as our “ageing athlete” by winning his ( advanced ) age group in last weekend’s Waikiki Swim Club‘s biathlon race .
Firm founder and now Of Counsel, Brad Coates took second in his age group at the Waikiki Swim Club’s annual Christmas run/swim Biathlon race last Saturday…. With his typical modesty (?) Brad downplays his accomplishment pointing out the fact that there are quote “very few people left in my age group”.
Our Coates Frey Tanimoto & Gibson ( “C&F”) Ohana is just like any Hawaii family or group of island folks, especially around local sports championship playoffs time. It’s all about “where you one grad from high school?”, not where anyone went to college or even law school. The ILH is well represented by our firm’s attorneys, from Saint Louis, Punahou, Iolani to Kamehameha, and even the OIA schools are part of the firm’s mix, including Kaimuki & Kaiser.
BUT … of course, our firm’s managing attorney, GREG FREY , is almost rabid in his support of his alumni, SAINT LOUIS SCHOOL, as the longtime President of the ST. LOUIS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION and the Vice-Chair of the Saint Louis School Board of Trustees . Greg literally “bleeds red and blue”. In fact, you may have heard his voice over on a radio and TV commercial playing “all over the airwaves” right now about Saint Louis School, joined most prominently by SWEETIE PACARRO (whose family is quite legendary at Saint Louis School) of KSSK Radio.
Greg was quite touched by the generosity and show of support by Associate Attorneys, TOM S. TANIMOTO and NOAH H. GIBSON , who recently gifted him with a unique FIGHTING CRUSADER giant cookie from The Cookie Corner as a show of support of Greg’s absolute fanaticism for Coach CAL LEE & the Crusaders Varsity Football Team as it prepares to defend it’s HHSAA State Championship. What a great gesture from a couple of fantastic C&F attorneys, especially since they graduated from Iolani and Punahou!
Firm founder Brad Coates has been getting a ton of media exposure recently in support of the Fifth Edition of his award-winning book Divorce with Decency: A How-To Handbook and Survivors Guide to the Legal, Economic and Social Issues . Brad and his prominent realtor Sachi Braden were featured on the November 6 installment of Living 808 on KHON Channel 2. Please visit the link below to watch their segment. Prior to that Brad was interviewed by Think Tech Hawaii in a podcast where he discussed Adventures in Matrimonial Law . The link for that show is listed below.

Finally, Brad was featured in the Sunday, November 5 Honolulu Star Advertiser section called Currents which highlighted him as that Sunday’s “poster boy” of prominent folks here in town.
Following this bout of media saturation Brad says he is about ready to quit talking for a while… But those of us here at the firm who have had to listen to him for decades feel that we will need to see that actually happen in order to really believe it.
Our crew here at Coates Frey Tanimoto & Gibson is pleased to announce three exciting recent updates:
1) Our firm’s Managing Attorney Greg Frey has recently been nominated to serve as Vice President/President-Elect of the Hawaii State Bar Association. This is quite an honor because it would entail his heading up the entire “Attorneys Association” here in Hawaii. But we aren’t counting our chickens before they hatch because Greg still faces an electoral runoff against a very worthy opponent. Regardless of how Greg’s election turns out however, we are very grateful for the honor of his having even been nominated. To learn why we humbly ask you to please vote for Greg.
2) Pacific Business News has just published its big listing of Hawaii’s Family Law firms and has ranked Coates Frey Tanimoto & Gibson as number one .
3) Our firm’s founder Brad Coates has recently published the 5th Edition of his award-winning book Divorce with Decency the Complete How-To Handbook and Survivors Guide to the Legal, Emotional, Economic, and Social Issues . Then, as if Mr. Coates own book were not enough, Brad has also been instrumental in publishing a brand new and “most excellent” book by prominent realtor Sachi Braden entitled Being Japanese in America: A How-To Handbook and Survivor’s Guide to Life in the U.S.A … From the Perspective of a Successful Transplant. Both Brad and Sachi’s books are essentially being published and released simultaneously…which is quite a feat in and of itself.
So there you have the latest from our end…we trust all goes well for all of you too!!!
